Hmmmm. Well, I've been silent for a couple of weeks again. A few things have happened since my last post -- some good, some not-so-good. Maybe I'll get into some of it later; and maybe I won't. Piggy likes to maintain some mystery, you know?
On the knitting front, I've managed to make some real progress on the Weasley Jumper; alas, not enough to complete it by tonight's deadline. One thing I've learned -- and I promise, you'll see it once I take some photos tomorrow in decent light -- is that intarsia and Piggy weren't instant best buds.
I'll leave you with a wee teaser of one of the good things that happened since the last post...
Any guesses? (If I've actually spoken to you about this already, keep mum!)
I have a good (well, I think it's half-way decent, anyway) story for tomorrow's post, but I figure I should give a quick update on a few things from before my wee blogging break before we press on...
Ants: The Great Wall of Cinnamon 3.0 was dismantled about 10 days or so ago. Yay!
Employment: I am still living a life of leisure. Unfortunately, it is an impoverished one.
Cold: It was gone, and then it came back...sort of. For the past couple of weeks or so, I've beensleeping for 10-12 hours each day (and "day" is accurate much of the time), and I have a strange, dry cough. A friend helpfully suggested it is swine flu. Har-dee-har.
Yarn shopping: Well, you've seen the Malabrigo from Sunday. But as I mentioned, that was on sale, so it doesn't count. Other than that, and that single skein of Socks That Rock a while ago, which again, didn't count (purchased, as it was, with funds from the sale of some stash), Piggy's been very, very good. No Elann sale crazyiness. Mind you, that is due more to the fact that most of the recent sales have been for not-so-desirable stuff. Including -- TWICE -- Noro stuff. Bah.
Weasley Jumper: I'm (finally) at the point where I need to start adding in the H on the front. My first foray into intarsia begins tomorrow.
So, now you're up to date in the world of Piggy. :-)
It's been quite a while, eh? A couple of you were even a tad concerned by Piggy's silence. Not to worry; "the reports of my death are greatly exaggerated", and all that...
Proof everything is o.k. chez Piggy: there's new Mmmmal in the house!
Mmmmmmmmmmmmm! Malabrigo!
On the bottom: two skeins of Gruesa in the Polygala colourway, a hot purple I've been coveting for months. I finally allowed myself to indulge on Sunday, when I found it in the 30%-off basket at Three Bags Full. I have no real plans for it, other than to gaze at it longingly and stroke it affectionately every hour or so.
Perched atop the Polygala is a luscious skein of Mal Lace in Intenso, from the lovely beentsy, who, for some unfathomable reason, wasn't in love with the gorgeous hot pinkiness. Again, I have no plans for it.
It's only just Canada Day here on the west coast -- 3:00 a.m. And instead of sleeping, Piggy is surfing the interwebs for appropriate Canada Day post material, in the (ever-more likely given how late it is) event I don't make it to the parade and festivities tomorrow.
I'd spent a couple of frustrating hours searching for a particular piece of Canadiana on youtube when I stumbled upon a couple of other Canada Day-appropriate videos that I think are pretty cool. Especially because they are from people in the United States.
We Canadians often grumble that many of our neighbours to the south can be pretty clueless when it comes to our country. If you've ever seen Talking to Americans, you'll know what I'm talking about... "Congratulations, Canada, on getting electricity!", etc.
But we should be careful not to subscribe too enthusiastically to our own blanket stereotyping, as these videos show.
First up, a knitting-related clip: 400 Americans singing O Canada to the Yarn Harlot in St. Paul, Minnesota (thanks, NoNeinNyet, for the correction!) in 2007.
And even cooler (if you forget that there's no knitting involved): this video submitted to Canada Day Across America, "the yearly celebration of Canada Day by people with a strong Canadian bond living in the United States".
Piggy. Loves. Abbey.
Happy Canada Day, y'all! ;-)
PS: I did manage to find the particular video I was looking for...I'll post it later. Canada's B-day is worth two posts, I reckon. :-)
